Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods


  • Mission

    • maintain approximately 200 acres and 10+ miles of woodland trails for daily, year-round, low impact recreation such as hiking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing
    • provide bird and nature education to adults, children, 4H clubs, and school groups
    • maintain and preserve the historic Chapman House, perennial gardens, trails and water resources
    • manage, create or improve a variety of wildlife habitats for mammals, birds, reptiles and insects (including some critically important pollinators)

    About Us

    Established in 1955, Chapman Sanctuary and Visny Woods (CSVW) operates as a non-profit

    nature, bird, and wildlife sanctuary in Center Sandwich, New Hampshire.

    The sanctuary is a place for families, children and adults to connect with nature and explore wildlife in their natural habitat across nearly 200 acres of woodland trails, meadows and streams.

    ​CVSW is open daily to the public year-round from dawn to dusk with plenty of parking. Admission to the trails is FREE of charge thanks to your individual memberships, donations and grants for financial support.
