Media Arts Council
The Media Arts Council works to further its mission to actively support local artists and integrate a wide range of arts into the life of the entire community.
M.A.C. seeks to:
- Support artists by increasing opportunities to exhibit or perform their work in Media
- Create opportunities to communicate information about art happenings throughout the area
- Contribute to community arts events that appeal to all members of the community
Situated on State Street in Media’s growing West End neighborhood, the MAC Gallery is free and open to the public and exhibits works from local artists.
Among MAC’s most successful events is the annual Media Film Festival. The 2018 festival screened over 40 short films over three days, bringing art from around the world to 1,000 people at the Media Theater in downtown Media.
Through its partnership with the Media Youth Center, MAC offers the Media Youth Film Initiative (MyFi), which provides filmmaking instruction and education high-school aged students. Over the 10-week course, students learn how to make a film, from brainstorming a unique storyline through acting, directing, camera operation, lighting, sound, editing, and post production. MyFi students screen their films at the annual Media Film Festival. MAC offers tuition waivers for those who are unable to pay the full cost to attend.
Additionally, MAC provides a number of classes and workshops for children and adults throughout the year.
These partnerships and initiatives contribute to making Media a thriving arts community and destination.
