The Trust's principal objects as set out in its Articles and Memorandum of Association are, "to advance education, music and the arts and to promote the conservation and public appreciation of the River Thames, its tributaries and adjoining areas".

The principal activities of the Trust are presently:

- Raising funds to programme and deliver the annual Mayor's Thames Festival.

- Running Rivers of the World, a major international arts and education project delivered in partnership with the British Council's Connecting Classrooms programme.

- Presenting Totally Thames, a month-long series of events along the 42-mile stretch of the river in London throughout September, delivered in partnership with organisations up and down the river.

Thames Festival Trust is a founding member of RiverCities, an international platform that aims to increase the impact of culture on urban waterways and waterfronts.
