Saint Mary's College of California - AmeriCorps*VISTA Program
1928 Saint Marys Road
Saint Mary’s College of California (SMC) is teaming up with AmeriCorps VISTA to strengthen partnerships between higher education and nonprofit organizations to alleviate poverty and create positive social change.
We host a multi-campus program in which 16 AmeriCorps VISTA Members will serve full-time at non-profit organizations affiliated with SMC, Sonoma State University (SSU), Stanford University, University of San Diego (USD), and University of San Francisco (USF).
VISTAs make a year-long, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization. They focus their efforts to build the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.
VISTAs in our program work one day per week at the university and four days per week at the nonprofit organization. While the specific responsibilities are unique, each job description has three focus areas:
1. Capacity-Building Project
Reinforce the efficacy and/or efficiency of the nonprofit with a specific project outlined by each nonprofit.
2. Campus-Community Liaison
Support and coordinate partnerships between the nonprofit and university students, faculty, and staff.
3. Volunteer Infrastructure
Strengthen volunteer management infrastructure at the nonprofit and/or university.
