About Us

Humane Society University is a private, nonprofit institution offering a variety of graduate, undergraduate, and noncredited professional development programs in human-animal studies. Based in Washington, D.C., HSU is the first higher education institution in the country licensed to provide bachelor’s degrees and graduate certificates exclusively dedicated to human-animal studies.

HSU programs are designed for students who seek to enhance their work on behalf of animals through advanced skills and knowledge, gain employment with an animal protection organization, or advance scholarship in the field.

• School of Arts and Sciences: HSU’s School of Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate degrees and graduate certificates in animal protection studies. Courses in these programs are taught in online, hybrid, and classroom formats.

• School of Professional Development: HSU’s School of Professional Development offers a range of noncredit online courses, professional certificate programs, and onsite workshops on animal care, shelter management, humane education, and advocacy throughout the United States.
