About Us

For over 35 years The Parent Resource Center (PRC) has been an integral part of the Port Washington community, bringing together families with young children to play, learn, grow, and make life-long friendships.

Beginning in 1978 as a Mother-Child Home Program sponsored by the Port Washington School District, the program was designed to help low-income families learn successful parenting skills. Lynne Randolph, the program’s director at the time, quickly realized that the entire community could benefit from this type of education and support.

In 1980 – with the support of the local school district, community agencies, businesses, and individual sponsors – the Parent Resource Center (“The PRC”, for short) was created! Originally housed in one room of the old Flower Hill School on Campus Drive, the PRC offered discussion groups and drop-in playtime for its members. Shortly after, the Mother-Child Home Program was defunded. The PRC, realizing the value of this program, remained committed to providing support for families who had been participating in the canceled program. Through this work, the Outreach program was born.

Today, the PRC has grown to over 400 members and provides parenting workshops, social events, recreational outings, drop-off babysitting , summer camp , and a myriad of developmental classes geared toward infants and toddlers. Our Outreach program – known as “Stepping Stones”- has grown right alongside the PRC and today helps many local families gain access to early childhood educational opportunities, ESL classes, Summer Camp and scholarships to PRC programs.

Although the PRC has undergone many changes, the primary goal has remained the same – to provide a safe and healthy environment for parents and children to learn, have fun and make friends. With professionally-led classes and a loving staff, the Parent Resource Center of Port Washington has become one of the premiere early childhood learning centers in our area of the country.
