The Virginia Farmworkers Legal Assistance Project is a federally-funded legal services organization providing legal assistance and community education to migrant farmworkers througout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Farmwork is the second most dangerous occupation in this country. More than 42,000 farmworkers labor in Virginia, and face numerous problems -- including unpaid wages, pesticide exposure, and on-the-job accidents. The workers' legal issues are compounded by the cultural, geographic, and linguistic barriers they face. The Project's small staff works closely with other organizations, including Central Virginia Legal Aid and the Legal Aid Justice Center, in providing quality legal services to Virginia's farmworkers.
