  • About Us

Turn the Page KC is Mayor Sly James' reading initiative committed to ensuring that students in Kansas City, Missouri are reading at grade level by the time they leave third grade. In order to institute sustainable generational change we must start at the most basic level, ensuring all students have the most fundamental skill, the ability to read. Students who are unable to read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school. Less than half of students in the Kansas City area are reading at their grade level by the time they finish third grade. A critical component to Turn the Page KC is to change this dynamic by increasing the number of volunteers who donate time to early literacy education.
