About Us

Oakland Communities United for Equity and Justice (OCUEJ) is a newly formed nonprofit that includes Phat Beets Produce, Self Help Hunger Program, and North Oakland Restorative Justice Council. Phat Beets is a food justice organization that works to increase healthy food access by connecting small farmers of color to urban communities in Oakland through a CSA, farmers’ market, edible parks, and other projects. Self Help Hunger Program provides meals, food, and services to the underserved homeless and very low-income populations of North Oakland and South Berkeley in an effort to alleviate poverty and build community. North Oakland Restorative Justice Council develops community-based responses to conflict and violence in order to reduce harm and promote healing through restorative justice practices.
