Rhode Island Black Storytellers

Rhode Island Black Storytellers (RIBS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the awareness, appreciation, and application of Black Storytelling in Rhode Island and throughout New England through performance, as well as through educational and cultural experiences. All through the year, RIBS offers workshops in storytelling, writing, and related arts as a part of the development of the next generation of storytellers along with professional development workshops for those interested in enhancing cultural awareness, and improving their performances and communication skills. All these elements come together to create Funda Fest.

The messages in the stories are a vehicle for socio-emotional learning, the potential for connecting storytelling to literacy, and our ability to provide students with an opportunity to hear and tell stories that are connected to their heritage. Our opportunities to also engage teachers to better understand and connect with their diverse student population.
