Geeks Rule

Geeks Rule is a New York based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on promoting the study of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) among underserved youth. Geeks Rule creates and provides STEM awareness, exposure, and support for underserved elementary, middle and high school students.

Geeks Rule aims to increase interest and participation in STEM among underrepresented minorities through a series of programs that serve as a funnel. We raise awareness of STEM by bringing in STEM professionals to speak in front of classes and lead them in a STEM-related activity. We build interest by taking classes on field trips to STEM organizations. We will generate enthusiasm through problem-based learning activities in our afterschool programs that expose students to a different STEM field each month. Finally, we will build proficiency through our afterschool field-specific clubs, such as a biology club, that enable students to spend hundreds of hours pursuing their STEM interests. Our clubs will provide students with mentors and college advisors, so that we will become a pipeline for universities looking for enthusiastic and proficient minority students to increase diversity on campus, particularly in their STEM programs.  http://geeksrule.org
