About Us

The ICONS Project, based at the University of Maryland, creates simulations and scenario-driven exercises to advance participants' understanding of complex problems and strengthen their ability to make decisions, navigate crises, think strategically, and negotiate collaboratively.

Our simulations are run on our proprietary web application, ICONSnet, and our work includes three programs: Education, Training, and Policy & Research.

Education Program:  Online simulations that bring active learning on complex issues into your classroom. Perfect for courses on political science, negotiation, history, geography, and international affairs.

Training Program: Simulation-based trainings customized to engage today's professionals and provide meaningful experience coping with practical dilemmas. Focus areas: negotiation, decision-making, organizational development, and crisis leadership.

Policy and Research Program: Simulations and scenarios designed to support policy planning and advance research in the social and cognitive sciences. Focus areas: strategic and diplomatic dilemmas in international relations.
