About Us

The Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden is a one-of-a-kind heritage location that was created to preserve some of the area’s most treasured gardens. The Garden's mission is "Connecting the community to nature through a diverse and beautiful collection of historical gardens”. The Highline Botanical Garden Foundation was incorporated in 1999 with the purpose of creating and supporting an eleven acre botanical garden in North SeaTac Park in the City of SeaTac, WA.  The Foundation has developed six acres to create a one-of-a-kind heritage location to preserve some of the area’s most treasured gardens .  The Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden is made up of many separate gardens and is the only botanical garden in the country which was established by moving local gardens to save them from nearby airport expansion. Elda Behm's private 'Paradise Garden' garden was moved to the HSBG.  Following the Paradise Garden, a series of five display sections representing the King County Iris Society, the Puget Sound Daylily Club, the NW Fuchsia Society, the Western Species Fuchsia Society and the Seattle Rose Society were planted.  In 2005, the City of SeaTac and the Port of Seattle moved the Seike Japanese Garden from the Des Moines Nursery to the Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden.  The pond and garden contains maples and sculpted pines, stone lanterns and decorative bridges.   Expansion occurs, according to the Garden’s master plan, as funding becomes available. The Highline Botanical Garden Foundation is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit corporation in the State of Washington.
