About Us

Our mission is to provide supportive services within a caring community to homeless women on the Monterey Peninsula. Our vision is for the unhoused and housing insecure women on the Monterey Peninsula to live a healthier, more secure life that includes a pathway out of homelessness or housing insecurity. Along the pathway, Gathering for Women provides the care, the support, and the dignity a woman needs to remain safe and healthy as she seeks affordable housing and a more sustainable and secure future.

Gathering for Women – Monterey (GFW) serves some of the most vulnerable women in our community. Since we opened our Day Center in June 2018 we have served 1,442 unique individuals. According to the recently published 2019 Monterey County “Point-in-Time Homeless Census & Survey”, there are 2,422 homeless individuals in Monterey County of which 35 percent were identified as female. Our target population consists of these individuals, as well as hard-to-count women who live in encampments on the Monterey Peninsula.

At our Day Center, guests are encouraged to meet daily basic living needs by showering, eating regular healthy meals at the center, and dressing in new and laundered clothing from our Clothes Closet. We also provide case management, access to mental and physical health care providers, as well as enrichment courses.
