The Chris Hondros Fund

About Us

The Fund was established to honor American Pulitzer Prize finalist photojournalist Chris Hondros. Hondros, who covered most of the world's conflicts since the late 1990s, including those in Kosovo, Liberia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya, was killed April 20, 2011 while on assignment in Misurata, Libya. The Fund’s aim is to honor Hondros’s legacy and vision of creating a visual history through emotive imagery, as well as his distinctive ability to bring shared human experiences into the public eye. To this end, the Fund intends to educate the public about the work of photojournalists, support and honor the work of photojournalists who espouse the legacy and vision of Mr. Hondros and raise awareness of the issues facing photojournalists reporting from conflict-areas around the world.
