  • About Us

Founded more than 40 years ago, Ulster Literacy Association is a 501(c)(3) organization with a long-established commitment to empower families in and around Ulster County through literacy and volunteer support. Today ULA serves roughly 400 adult learners through a range of literacy programs offered free of charge. Over the years, programs have included one-to-one tutoring; English for Parents; English for Farm Families; writing and life skills at the Ulster Correctional Facility; classroom support at the Ulster BOCES (Boards of Cooperative Educational Services); and other off-site workplace programs. Since 2017, ULA has been the sole administering agency for Americorps’ Retired Senior Volunteer Program in Ulster County. We strive to engage experienced older adults with our mission and keep them involved in community activities.
