About Us

Read A Recipe for Literacy is a literacy nonprofit that focuses on communication, literacy, and community with K-5 students in Palm Beach County and New York. Read a Recipe for Literacy was founded by Mary Jo Weinig in 2007 under the auspices of the Weinig Foundation. The Weinig foundation is a small, proactive, and fully accredited 501c(3) non-profit family foundation established in 1995. The purpose of the Weinig foundation is to promote education and literacy in innovative and engaging ways.

The mission of Read A Recipe for Literacy is to improve student communication skills through exciting activities while providing them with the opportunity to gain a better understanding of healthy living and an appreciation of their community. Read A Recipe has been operating since 2007 and works in partnership with the Palm Beach County Parks and Recreation Centers and their after-school programs, the Peconic Land Trust in NY, as well as local libraries and other generous supporters.
