The children’s gallery chicago
Mission
Our mission is to amplify creativity, confidence, and connection for Chicago youth by transforming public spaces into studios and galleries of inquiry where young people create, lead, and share their stories. We center equity, access, and representation so every child can see themselves as an artist, a thinker, and an agent of change.
About Us
The Children’s Gallery Chicago (TCGC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded on a simple but radical belief: children deserve spaces where their thoughts and creativity are not just encouraged but taken seriously.
Too often, traditional galleries and museums ask children to quiet themselves — to shrink, to adapt to adult expectations of what art should look like, sound like, or mean.
We believe the opposite.
A child’s imagination is not a rehearsal for adulthood. It’s a legitimate and vital form of knowledge. When young people paint, write, build, or perform, they’re not just making art but building theories of the world. Our role is to listen, to resource them, and to create systems where their creative intelligence becomes part of the city’s cultural fabric.
Our work transforms public and community spaces — parks, libraries, even storefronts, into creative laboratories of belonging. These spaces invite youth to collaborate with artists and neighbors, to explore identity and place, and to turn their art into civic dialogue on their own terms. Every pop-up becomes a site of joy, a space for storytelling and connection, and a living archive of imagination.
TCGC is nurturing a system of care built through color, sound, and story — so youth can shape not only their art but their futures, and see themselves as designers of the world around them and co-authors of Chicago’s creative narrative.
