    Our mission is to unite artists and communities to create public art and expand the tradition of public art making. That vision has never been more relevant. CPAG is grounded in these principles: every Chicago resident deserves to experience the impact of art; every neighborhood should have a voice; and public art and its creation encourage community investment. CPAG grounds its programming in the social and spiritual needs of the community, and in the physical world of appropriate materials, ease of maintenance, and functional design. The organization has a national reputation for engaging citizens in every step of the artmaking process, benefiting residents across the city of Chicago. Our artists transform neglected urban landscapes with works that instill pride of heritage, tradition, and place in the surrounding area.

    About Us

    When artists, William Walker and John Weber, formed the Chicago Mural Group* in 1972, They were motivated by the power of a revolutionary movement that brought art to the streets. Outdoor murals put the stories of cultural heroes and the struggles of ordinary people where they would inspire their communities.

    Today, CPAG continues to empower citizens to take creative ownership of their public spaces. We mentor, motivate, and support artists to develop installations in neighborhoods throughout Chicago and teach creative skills to children and adults. This collaboration provides our constituents with tools to articulate their ideas and the confidence to transform urban landscapes. Over 1,000 murals, sculptures, mosaics, playgrounds, and earthworks across the city are the result of that commitment. Neighborhoods as diverse as Roseland, Little Village, Bronzeville, and ChinaTown are represented in our portfolio.
