DocSong partners with teaching artists and communities to transform stories into songs that heal, empower, and inspire. We practice and teach documentary songwriting — a collaborative method that allows musicians and non-musicians to co-write meaningful songs together.
DocSong trains and supports teaching artists to bring documentary songwriting into communities across the country.
Documentary songwriting is a collaborative method that allows musicians and non-musicians to co-create original songs rooted in real stories and lived experience. It's accessible by design — participants don't need musical backgrounds to make something meaningful, and teaching artists don't need to be virtuosos to facilitate powerful work. They need training, practice, and a community of fellow practitioners. That's what DocSong provides.
Our teaching artists work in schools, community organizations, healthcare settings, and other spaces where people come together to process experience, build connection, and be heard. DocSong supports them with professional development, resources, and a growing network of practitioners committed to this work.
