About Us

Altus Academy is a new private, independent, non-profit middle school serving underrepresented (historical minority, low-income, first generation college going) children and families in the greater Lawndale community. We are driven and guided in our efforts by the social doctrine of the Catholic Church. Our mission is to build character and college trajectory intellectual and academic skills in a student and family centered environment. We accomplish this by focusing in an integral fashion on the intellectual, academic, moral, physical and spiritual development of each student and member of our community.

The Altus Academy is in its second year of operation, with 31 students and a waiting list of prospective students for our next academic year. Our intention is to grow to a middle school student body of 120 students and then to assess the options for future development. The Academy is not tuition based and relies on private gift support for our operation and growth.

Altus Academy is registered as a non-profit corporation in the State of Illinois and as a Charitable Organization with the Illinois Attorney General Charitable Trust Bureau and is a tax-exempt public charity under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Altus Academy admits students of any race, color, and national or ethnic origin.
