About Us

The mission of the Wakarusa Historical Society is to promote an understanding of the town of Wakarusa as well as the surrounding communities. The organization operates a musuem complex with historical and reproduction buildings. Our society was founded in order to preserve the Wabash Railroad Depot from destruction in 1976. Our collection contains a large variety of handtools, items relating to the Wakarusa High School, and to the town's history.

We present several events every year in order that visitors are able to connect to local history. Our favorite event is the Education Days when we open our doors to students in the area. We enjoy this event because every gets a better sense of history by interacting with the objects from that time. Another annual event is the Maple Syrup Festival in which we celebrate the town's history with this syrup. We restarted hosting the Antique Machinery and Tractor show in 2013 which is a great place to see how farming technology has changed over the years.
