About Us

Big Initiative and Big Reuse's mission is to achieve zero waste, fight climate change, and create green jobs though innovative environmental initiatives. We are work everyday to divert reusable and compostable materials from landfills. 


We are a non-profit social enterprise which uses the materials that otherwise would have been thrown out to create value in our communities. Big Reuse operates:



  • reuse center at 1 12th Street, Brooklyn that diverts 1.4 million of materials each year and provides work site for job training
  • two community composting sites in Brooklyn and Queens that compost over 1.5 million lbs of organic materials each year - providing over 200 groups with compost for community greening
  • outreach to New York to promote DSNY organics collection - speaking to over 150,000 residents in 7 different languages
