The Center for Afrofuturist Studies (CAS) at Public Space One is an artist residency program based in Iowa City for artists of color whose work engages the futures of black and POC lives. Organized in collaboration with Public Space One and several Iowa City organizations, CAS hosts artists-in-residence and visiting artists whose lectures, workshops, public forums, and exhibitions explore the intersections of race, technology, and the diaspora.
Since 2016, the CAS has hosted 11 artists and writers of color from around the country: Tiona McClodden, Kameelah Janan Rasheed, Louis Chude-Sokei, Krista Franklin, Alexandria Eregbu, Devin Cain, Terence Nance, Kat Simóne Reynolds, Shawné Michaelain Holloway, Justin Allen, and Jade Ariana Fair.
