About Us

The Fund for the Public Interest is a national non-profit organization that works to build support for progressive organizations across the country.  We've run campaigns for USPIRG, Environment America, the Human Rights Campaign, the Sierra Club, Greenpeace, and Fair Share Alliance.

This year, we are running an office in Washington, DC for the Human Rights Campaign to build support for the Equality Act, a federal bill that would prohibit discrimination against LGBT people in employment, housing, and education. Right now, people risk being fired or losing their homes in 28 states for being gay or bisexual and in 31 states for being trans. We need a federal civil rights bill for LGBT people to ensure full equality under the law.  Building up the public awareness for this historic legislation is incredibly important, and the DC office has a unique role in achieving that mission in our nation's capitol.
