Oberlin College Bonner Center for Service and Learning

Our mission:

The Bonner Center for Service and Learning (BCSL) at Oberlin College, in partnership with the surrounding community, encourages all students to become engaged citizens through curricular and co- curricular initiatives, which enrich the community and enhance students’ education.

Our vision is that Oberlin College students, members of the faculty and staff, and the greater Oberlin community understand the importance and benefits of a civically engaged community. A civically engaged community is one that recognizes and respects the cultures of others and acknowledges community service as a bold and innovative approach to learning.

The BCSL’s programs prepare all students for both engaged citizenship and effective civic leadership. The BCSL supports a growing number of faculty- initiated community-based learning experiences that educate students and strengthen the community. Through the development of increasingly strong collaborations with the BCSL, community partners’ programs are consistently enhanced.
