  • Mission

The mission of Dr. Shalon’s Maternal Action Project is to increase awareness of the Black maternal health crisis, and to develop and promote community-based action-driven strategies that improve reproductive health outcomes and recognize the human-centered value of Black birthing people and families.

    About Us

At Dr. Shalon’s Maternal Action Project, we work to remove barriers, biases, and disparate practices that impede access to equitable, quality care for Black women and women of color. Currently, we have three active programs: GrAMMS (grandmothers rallying against maternal mortality sisterhood), where we provide solace and solidarity among grandmothers who have lost their daughters to preventable maternal deaths, while training them to become advocates for health equity; The SHALON Method, an antibias training course developed for physicians, health care systems and birth workers; and Believe Her 2.0 which is a digital platform for Black women to find resources for the perinatal journey.
