About Us

The American Heritage Society is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit organization that advances historical knowledge and the teaching of K-16 history/social studies through new media projects, magazines, books, conferences, and events. It publishes the 62-year-old American Heritage Magazine, the oldest and most respected magazine about American history, and its sister magazine, Invention & Technology, the only popular magazine of the history of technology which features articles on innovation, applied science and engineering.

The Society is developing three major new educational initiatives. Heritage Education will provide thousands of free essays by prominent historians, primary documents, and artifacts for teaching American history. The Innovation Gateway will offer STEM education including over 1,000 essays on great inventions and milestones in the history of technology. The National Portal to Historic Collections (www.NationalPortal.org), which was funded with a startup grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, offers online access to nearly 100 historic collections including Valley Forge, Gettysburg, and Harpers Ferry.

The American Heritage Society is an Equal Opportunity Employer, M/F/D/V.
