Nonprofit organization located in Jinja, Uganda, with a focus on creativity. Creativity in thinking differently and considering other options – options often seen as peculiar, absurd or unnecessary. But we feel that the ones that think absurdly different are the ones that think about what should be done, not what has been done. Those are the ones that inspire necessary change. Suddenly, creativity seems like a good idea.
boo-loon-jee; Fine or good in the local Luganda language, but serves as the answer to almost any greeting or question in Uganda. How are you? Bulungi. Good morning? Bulungi. How was school? Bulungi. Bulungi is the answer to all of uganda's questions. Creativity is our bulungi - the answer to the education questions being asked of us.
The education system based on repetition and memorization is prominent in Uganda. While it can be an effective tactic to remember facts, it doesn't foster thinking. Instead, children simply grow up remembering something, but not knowing why, how or what it means.
Bulungi's key activation is the Creative Thinking program, working in local primary schools to complement the Ugandan education program. Our focus is to fill the need and void present in developing students' creative and critical thinking through a purposefully disruptive curriculum focused on challenging the conventional and stimulating individual creative thought.
