Wissahickon Charter School
Opened in 2002, Wissahickon Charter School's first campus, Fernhill, serves 480 K-8 students from across Philadelphia. Wissahickon Charter School's second K-8 campus, Awbury opened in Philadelphia in the fall of 2014. The mission of Wissahickon Charter School (WCS) is to provide a community of learning with an environmental focus that stimulates and builds the child's intellectual, social, and character development. Wissahickon Charter School has been planned around three essential elements: an environmental focus recognizing the importance of active learning that allows students to experience the curriculum, recognition of service learning projects as a key element in students' academic success, and an emphasis on family involvement at all levels of the school organization, with special emphasis on parents as partners in the learning experiences of their children.
