Big Hope
Mission
Our mission at Big Hope is to empower learning minds with the usage of applied technology through advanced scientific discovery and equitable education opportunities for underserved communities by providing collaboration opportunities and mentorship initiatives that create lasting impact. Through this grant, Big Hope aims to foster innovation and drive systemic change for a more inclusive future for all in the Dallas Independent School District.
About Us
Our Values at the Big Hope:
Many students in underserved communities lack awareness and access to high-quality Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) learning opportunities that build critical thinking, digital literacy, and problem-solving skills. In Dallas, disparities in educational resources limit early exposure to hands-on technology and innovation, particularly for students from low-income communities. Without intentional STEAM programming, these students are less likely to develop the skills and confidence needed to pursue future academic and career pathways in STEM-related fields.
The Big Hope Organization is continuously seeking to expand hands-on STEAM enrichment programs serving students currently at Paul Laurence Dunbar Elementary School in Dallas, Texas and potentially many more educational centers in the surrounding area. Through project-based learning such as coding, robotics, engineering design challenges, and creative technology activities, the program will provide engaging opportunities for students to explore innovation while strengthening academic engagement and collaboration skills.
Demographics Served:
The population served reflects the broader demographics of Dallas ISD, where 87.2% of students are economically disadvantaged, compared to 62.3% statewide. The majority of students identify as Hispanic (71.0%) and African American (19.8%). Big Hope serves Title 1 schools through its STEAM programs. Programs are inclusive of all genders and backgrounds, with no restrictions on participation. However, priority is given to students from underserved communities who face limited access to STEAM education, ensuring equitable opportunities for those most impacted by educational and digital resource gaps.
