About Us

A world where men & women are equals.
We advance gender equality in economically challenged communities by teaching photography to girls who, in turn, teach photography to boys. Girls build self-confidence while improving their leadership and presentation skills, while boys respect and value the girls in their communities. Global gender equality is more than a “girls only” effort. It can only be achieved when both girls and boys understand the importance of living as equals.

The Program
Through partnerships with organizations like She’s the First, a nonprofit that supports girls’ education in 12 countries around the world, KIOO is advancing gender equality. A tailored 10-day photography workshop is created to address the specific challenges the community faces. Girls learn photographic techniques the first week. In the second week, boys join the workshop to learn photography from a special group of newly minted teachers—the girls—while the KIOO team oversees the program. At the end of the 2 weeks, a gallery show exhibiting the students’ work at their school allows the local community to celebrate the children’s accomplishments.
