For over 35 years ArtWorks has been opening the minds of young inquisitive children to the world of art and the world at large. Our trained volunteer instructors visit public school classrooms and lead interactive workshops on architecture, sculpture, painting and decorative arts. Students discuss, compare and interpret works of art. They discover that ideas can be communicated with shapes, colors and symbols. They practice slowing down-observing carefully-thinking deeply and using visual evidence to support their interpretations. The curriculum culminates in a guided visit to either the Brooklyn Museum of Art or the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This trip is the highlight of the program as the children eagerly apply their new visual literacy skills while exploring some of the world's greatest art collections.
