GARDNER HISTORICAL MUSEUM INC

  • Mission

We are a local museum dedicated to preserving the history of the people of Gardner, Kansas and the surrounding vicinity of southwest Johnson County. Located on the historic Santa Fe Trail, we also are situated near two WWII military installations, the Olathe Naval Air Station and the Sunflower Ordinance Works, with research materials and artifacts.

    About Us

Since 2002, we have occupied the historic home of Herman B. Foster, built in 1893. Our administrative offices and meeting area are in the former Bray House, behind the Museum, built in 1952 and acquired in 2010. We have research files about families, businesses, homes, obituaries and schools. We are currently hoping to increase our volunteers as docents and clerical assistants. We are all volunteers....the only paid staff is the cleaning lady. Our current exhibit is: The Homefront-Women and Civilians during war, featuring WWII. We are planning a genealogy workshop in summer or fall. The only fundraising event we have been able to continue during COVID is a semi-annual Painting Party.....next planned for fall.
