    About Us

Misfit Farm Sanctuary (MFS) is a nonprofit organization that will operate exclusively for charitable purposes. The primary mission of Misfit Farm Sanctuary is to provide the companion animals (dogs and cats) of terminally ill persons without rehoming options, an alternative to their beloved pet going to a community shelter, or being abandoned after the guardian’s death. MFS provides a degree of peace to the dying individual, that their pets will be properly and lovingly cared for after they are no longer able to do so. MFS will provide routine daily care to these animals including but not limited to feeding, grooming, veterinarian care, medication, exercise, enrichment and affection. Animals will be rehomed as appropriate and in line with the wishes of their terminal guardian. If unable to be rehomed or fostered, animals will remain with MFS where their physical and emotional needs will be met daily for their entire life. MFS will also educate healthcare professionals, terminal guardians and their families in proper care of animals during their illness, recognition of grieving in their animal companion and the pet owner, and support in the decision to relinquish their beloved pet to a sanctuary that will properly care for them. The service MFS provides will help to decrease the number of animals placed in shelters or abandoned because family cannot care for them after the death of their guardian.
