Centre for Citizens Conserving Environment & Management (CECIC)

Center for Citizens Conserving Environment and Management (CECIC) is an advocacy non-profit organization dedicated to influencing environmental policies to benefit the vulnerable. The organization was formed in 2009 and born out of the need to contribute to efforts to turn Africa’s environmental protection potential into reality and to ensure that the local people, mostly youth and women, benefit from this effort. 

Mission: To improve the livelihoods of rural communities for sustainable development in the Rwenzori region through programs for climate justice, nature conservation and human rights advocacy.

Vision: A society that equitably uses natural resources for socio-economic development.

Through lobbying, research, and community education, CECIC works with communities and leaders to ensure that natural resources are utilized in a way that promotes equitable development, environmental conservation, and respect for human rights. The main themes of work are: natural resources governance, climate change and livelihoods, just transitions for communities as the transition to lower carbon energy supplies, and illegal wildlife trade. We have impacted over 10,000 people through the projects that we implement.
