We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational organization in Portland, Oregon (USA) whose mission is to promote lifelong STEM learning for all. I’m reaching out because we’d like to introduce our organization and explore partnership opportunities with organizations who are engaged in promoting STEM as well.
We are spearheading an open-source collaborative project to build the first Zero Energy Vessel of it’s kind and we are inviting the world to participate. We started a meetup group one month ago and it has grown to 55 members and counting, and we have faculty participating from four world class universities as well as a few remote participants around the world. Our youngest participant is 12 years old and our oldest is a 96 year old woman who is an alumna of Yale and was masterful in her career as an engineer!
This project is meant to be accessible to anyone interested in STEM fields and it is more about the journey and the experience of achieving the goal than the goal itself. We will be exploring things like collaborative problem solving, education outcomes through immersive technologies, alternative pedagogies using interactive media and more. Once our vessel is ready for the sea, we will continue to improve the technologies on board. She will be a shared research vessel between the institutions and organizations who helped build her, and she will be a STEM ambassador that cruises between ports in the Pacific Northwest offering educational experiences to students and educating the community about their local waterways.
