About Us

MISSION STATEMENT: To empower, enlighten, and mobilize the MSM community and its supporting networks around HIV issues through culturally appropriate and innovative education, interventions, and resources.

The Community Awareness Network or CAN is a program of the NO/AIDS Task Force located in the French Quarter of New Orleans. It was established in September 2000 to serve the MSM community in the area of HIV prevention and awareness.

The term MSM refers to men who have sex with men, even if they don't identify as gay or bisexual. MSM make up the group with the highest risk of HIV infection in Louisiana. In 2007, MSM accounted for 64% of new HIV cases diagnosed in the New Orleans Metropolitan area. The MSM community is still at risk, and it is up to us to change that!

Some of the programs at the CAN office include: -HIV Counseling, Testing, and Referral -Condoms and safer sex information -Online outreach to the MSM community -Re:Vision (a social group for gay/bi men, age 18-35) -Wellness Management
