    About Us

The Society of California Pioneers is an independent not-for-profit organization. All services provided to the public are free of charge, with a $5 suggested donation. Located on the historic Main Post in the Presidio of San Francisco, this organization operates a museum and research library, which are both free and open to the public. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00-5:00pm, while the library is open by appointment Tuesday through Friday.

The museum features rotating exhibitions on subjects that highlight our large collection of early California art, artifacts, and ephemera. A portion of the gallery is dedicated to our semi-permanent display for museum education programs, telling the story of the Gold Rush through primary source material. Our museum attracts diverse groups, including scouts and seniors, although our primary audience for education programs are 4th and 5th Graders learning about California history. On the weekends, our primary audience is tourists visiting the historic and beautiful Presidio.
