University of Illinois at Chicago - Department of Urban Planning and Policy
Want a city that works? Plant it!
Grounded in social justice and sustainability, the Department of Urban Planning and Policy at UIC has led the way in preparing students for careers in planning for over 40 years. At both the undergraduate and graduate levels, we teach students to use innovative concepts and technology to address urban issues. Our alumni work to organize communities, document and address environmental racism, create small business incubators, and ultimately build thriving cities.
We offer a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies, with minors in Sustainable Cities and Geographic Information Systems available. At the graduate level, we offer a Master's in Urban Planning and Policy (MUPP), a Master's in City Design (MCD), and a Ph.D. in Urban Planning and Policy. With areas of specialization that include Community Development, Economic Development, Environmental Planning and Policy, Spatial Planning, and Urban Transportation, our MUPP program is the only degree program in the Chicago area to be accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board.
