About Us

Welcome to the Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County, NJ. Our school reflects the philosophy and practices of Contemporary Conservative Judaism. Founded in 1974, our Schechter school prides itself on a thirty five year tradition of academic excellence in an atmosphere that fosters joy in living and observing Jewish lives and values. Beginning in pre-kindergarten and continuing through the eighth grade, we follow each child closely as they embark on their individual journeys of hearts and minds. We nurture children's interests, welcome their sense of discovery, and share their joy in their accomplishments. We strive for a meaningful, well balanced and well informed dual curriculum education, in a joyous, respectful environment.

We emphasize the development of critical thinking and analytical skills, knowledge of current technology and research across grades and subject areas. We instill in our children a love of Torah, creating students who can study text with a critical and thoughtful eye, while grappling with theological, spiritual and existential questions. Our ongoing study of Israel culminates in an annual eighth grade trip to Israel, creating a special bond to our Jewish land and people.
