About Us

The Battery Conservancy is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, founded in 1994 to partner with the City of New York's Department of Parks & Recreation (NYC Parks) to transform, maintain, operate, and program The Battery, the 25-acre public park at the southern tip of Manhattan. New York's "birthplace park," The Battery is where the city began. Over the millennia, it has welcomed Native Americans to fish from its shores, explorers and settlers, traders, immigrants, and tourists. The Battery is the original public space for mixing the glorious diversity of people in the city and continues to welcome 7 million visitors annually from throughout the city and region—and indeed, the nation and the world.
