Historic Green assists in the restoration and transformation of under-resourced communities through education and volunteer service. Our focus is on sustainable design, energy efficiency and community heritage conservation. Essentially, we do sustainable preservation in the context of service learning projects. Our leaders and volunteers are people of all ages and skill sets, who are passionate about community empowerment and the marriage of historic preservation and green building practices. As a national network, we are poised to take action in communities across the US and are currently active in New Orleans, Kansas City and Minneapolis.
Our signature event is the fifth annual Spring Greening in New Orleans’ Lower Ninth Ward, March 12-23, 2012.Volunteers with special interest in historic preservation and sustainable design from around the country collaborate with community members on projects that foster green homes, green spaces, and green community, while engaging in educational workshops and discussions. Leadership is about taking a stand and making a commitment. That is why Historic Green is committed to its work in the Lower Ninth Ward until at least 2020.
