    spare usa is an app that rounds up dinner and drink bills to support food insecure households in NYC - a problem affecting 14.4% of residents. Food Banks buy meals in cents not dollars - roundups can and will close the current meal gap. We’ve built a triple benefit model: 1) users: round up 99 cents or less (a fraction of the tip) & earn free drinks while giving back. 2) venues: claim credit for helping to feed hungry New Yorkers & drive sales through our rewards program without spending. 3) food banks: unlock a new stream of giving. We want to get spare in the pockets of 5% of New Yorkers. It’s that simple - 5% of New Yorkers automatically rounding up their dinner and drink bills, can replace the 208,000,000 missing meals owed to the hardest hit in our community.

    spare is on a mission to close the meal gap in New York.

    What is a meal gap? As defined by Feeding America, a meal gap represents the # of meals missing from homes struggling with food insecurity. There are currently 208 million missing meals in NYC, and we know exactly where to find them.

    Our app has been live and rounding up long enough to know that an average spare app user donates $15.00 a month. spare converts every dollar we raise into 3 meals, so the average user donates 45 meals per month and 540 meals per year.

    To see how many users we need to close the current meal gap we simply divide: 208 million missing meals / 540 meals donated per user per year = 385,185.2.

    385, 186 aware, engaged and compassionate individuals rounding up cents each day to make history. In a city of 8.6 million people, and with your help, we can reach them.
