The Problem
According to the World Health Organization, a lack of safe drinking water and adequate sanitation is the leading cause of illness in developing countries. 3.5million people (1.5million of those are children) die from inadequate access to clean drinking water and poor hygiene each year. These alarming facts are what inspired the creation of Water School.

Our Solution
SANITATION & HYGIENE EDUCATION + SODIS = CLEAN WATER FOR LIFE
Our Approach
We EMPOWER communities to empower themselves through a 3-Step education program. We DO TEACH people about good hygiene and sanitation We DO TRAIN people on SODIS (solar water disinfection)
SODIS is a simple technology that involves filling clean plastic bottles with contaminated waterand laying them in the tropical sun for 6 hours. This produces clean, drinkable water.
Our Impact
- Up to 86% reduction in dysentery cases in children
- Up to 67% reduction in diarrhoeal cases in children
- Up to 23% increase in school attendance
- Uganda’s largest rural hospital closed its dysentery wing due to lack of patients
Our Results
Since 2007 Water School has given over 400,000 people safe water and improved sanitation, saving the lives of some of the world’s most vulnerable people.
