    The mission of First Step is to eliminate both domestic and sexual violence and provide comprehensive services to individuals and families impacted by these crimes.

    About Us

    First Step is a nonprofit organization that has supported survivors of domestic and sexual violence since 1978. Based in Plymouth, Michigan, we are dedicated to providing safety, support, and hope to survivors and their families as they begin their healing journey.

    First Step offers a wide range of free, confidential services including a 24-hour helpline, individual and group counseling, legal advocacy, court accompaniment, on-call assault response, temporary emergency housing, transitional housing, children’s programming, and interpretation services.

    Our mission is rooted in empowerment, dignity, and respect. We strive to create a safe, supportive environment where survivors can heal and rebuild their lives.
