About Us

About Variety Boys & Girls Club Variety Boys & Girls Club (VBGC) was founded in 1949 and is in the Boyle Heights section of Los Angeles. We have successfully completed our capital campaign and commenced construction of our new building. Our web site is www.vbgc.org. VBGC has approximately 1,500 members and about 250 children go to one of its two locations each day. Over 80% of the Club’s members are in families that live below the Federal poverty level. About 70% of them are from one-parent households. The Club is an alternative to the street violence and gang activity that surrounds these children. It is a safe place to learn and grow while having fun in supervised programs, such as reading, arts & crafts, computer usage, sports, homework assistance, games, etc. Children ages seven to seventeen are taught values that emphasize respect for themselves and others. Many of our members come back after college and work to improve the neighborhood.
