New Mexico Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts

  • About Us

The New Mexico Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts was established in 1997 to support the mission of the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC, and to bring recognition to the achievements of New Mexico women artists in the visual, digital, performance, and literary arts.

We empower women artists of New Mexico by amplifying their voices, celebrating their achievements, and recognizing how they enrich our lives.

We support and promote women artists from all over our state. Our Women to Watch artists are from diverse locations such as Cordova, Galisteo, Nambé, and Cerrillos. Other programs have featured women artists from Albuquerque and La Puebla, Taos, Peñasco, and Santa Fe.

Our set of values guides how we treat each other, our partners, and our members:

    • Respect: We treat everyone with dignity and respect. We actively listen and approach each other with patience and kindness. Everyone has an equal voice.
    • Inclusion: We recognize the value and essential contribution of various backgrounds, points of view, and forms of expression. We are stronger in our collective and shared wisdom.
    • Support: We are encouraging, helpful, and solution oriented. We put aside our self- interests to serve our mission. We support each other and our community.
    • Empowerment: We inspire and encourage each other as individuals and artists. We understand the importance of stewardship and providing growth opportunities.  We enable all women to be their best.
    • Creativity: We look for ways to engage our members and artists. We are open to change, quick to pivot to changing needs and circumstances. We approach all we do with innovation, and challenge conventional thinking.
