Mission Statement: KivenK development is dedicated to watershed and catchment area protection, natural resources management with linked activities for income generating, women empowerment and organic farming.

WATERSHED DEVELOPMENT & CATCHMENT AREA PROTECTION

Watershed and catchment areas are relative terms, based on the context of application. However, strictly speaking, catchment area is a topographically defined area that is drained by an underground spring system to one or several points where the spring emerges. The area is often defined geographically as a terrestrial region that receives, stores and discharges water through the main spring of stream. Its watershed boundary may be hills, ridges or mountains. It is considered according to topography and hydro meteorological attribute boundaries, which are usually different from the administrative boundaries (Dixon and Easter, 1986). KivenK had carried out activities in Ntamandam ñ Akum watershed, Pinyin Watershed, Guzang Watershed, Tubah Watershed, Chomba Watershed, Tashem Watershed and last but not the least, Ntunir and Kumbo watersheds, depicts our latest activities.

Based on the project (ìNtunir watershed development for the protection of catchment areasî) submitted, for the internationally recognized prize for leadership in sustainable watershed management, KivenK development became the first African organization to win the International Resource Award in 2005.
