CASA OF THE APPALACHIAN MOUNTAINS

  • Mission

CASA of the Appalachian Mountains is a volunteer organization dedicated to the principle that every child is entitled to have a permanent home free from abuse and neglect with the opportunity to thrive. CASA of the Appalachian Mountains recruits, screens, trains, supervises, and supports community volunteers who are appointed by the Judge in their jurisdiction as Court Appointed Special Advocates. They serve as an independent voice throughout the juvenile court proceedings until a safe and permanent home is found for each child. Our volunteers act as the representative of the abused, neglected and/or dependent child in Floyd, Knott, Leslie, Letcher, Magoffin, Perry and Pike County.

    About Us

In the summer of 2020, the Kentucky CASA Network (KCN) assisted in the establishment of an advisory committee who had a passion for helping children affected by abuse, neglect, and dependency in the Eastern Mountain Region of Kentucky.

This group committed to assisting in the development of a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program that would serve Perry, Knott, Leslie and Letcher Counties. The advisory committee met with KCN staff monthly and developed the necessary credentials to create legally recognized nonprofit. Perry County District Judge Cody Goehring appointed the first Board of Directors for CASA of the Appalachian Mountains (CAM) on April 14, 2021.

In November of 2022, the board voted to merge with CASA of Eastern Kentucky who serves Pike, Floyd and Magoffin counties to form one unified CASA of the Appalachian Mountains which now serves seven counties.
